History

The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich was originally founded on the 15th Century, however it saw a lot of changes and relocations due to the conflicts that the country found itself involved with, ultimately it saw itself relocated to Munich during 1826, and has remained there ever since, at which point it adopted it’s modern name in honor of both it’s original founder and King Maximilian I.

It is one of Germany’s oldest universities to still operate, and it is amongst the most renowned, across it’s history it has had ties with 42 Nobel Laureates, and is currently considered to be an University of Excellence by Germany.

Admission requirements

In order to study at The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich prospective students  need to have a university entrance qualification, If a student’s school leaving qualification is not deemed equivalent to Abitur, the German standard, they can qualify for university entrance by completing a preparatory course and passing the final examination. In order to enroll in the preparatory course the student must first apply for a degree program at LMU. 

Since no program at The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich is fully taught in English, students must also provide proof of their German Language Proficiency.

Student Life

LMU offers students the possibility to participate in more than 90 different types of sports through it’s University Sports Center, the Culture Bureau might be more interesting for those interested in the arts, while foodies can enjoy the variety of dishes and food events commonly seen on campus.

Fees

In The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, students don’t have to pay tuition fees for most programs; fortunately this applies to international students too. Exceptions are the summer programs and some English-taught Master programs. 

Additionally while there is no tuition fee, students are required to pay a fee of €129,40 for student services (€62) and the basic semester ticket (€67,40).
