University of Western Australia

History

Originally established in 1911 the University of Western Australia was created as the result of a royal commission, and soon found itself imparting classes in 1913. It’s first few years were rife with controversy and unfortunate developments, it’s founding chancellor died in 1916, and general talk of the institution discussed how viable free education really was for the institution.

Ultimately however these factors paid off in the long run, the property donated by it’s former chancellor though his will resulted in the university being able to reform and expand it’s campus, and it’s free education policy coupled with it’s success proved the viability of such a practice in Australia, leaving a precedent for education in the nation.
