History of University

The history of Yonsei University goes all the way back to 1885, when the first hospital which followed western practices was established in Korea, helmed by American protestant Horace Newton Allen, the institution faced it’s share of troubles, but managed to endure the century an despite it’s main focus as a hospital it also started to educate students until it was eventually recognized as it’s own independent medical school.

The Japanese occupation years proved to be some of the toughest the institution had to face, nonetheless the staff refused to leave the school and kept instructing students in both medicine and nationalism, this came with a heavy price to the staff which is recognized to this day by the institution.

Ultimately through conflict and open war, Yonsei remained steadfast, and became a pillar for it’s nation both in trying and peaceful times, making it one of the most important and famous colleges in the entire nation.
