Central University of Venezuela

History

The Central University of Venezuela was first established in the year 1721, under the name of Universidad Real y Pontificia de Caracas, which itself dates back to the Seminary Saint Rose of Lima founded by Antonio Gonzalez de Acuña  in 1673, the institution grew in scope during the years, gaining new faculties and staff, nonetheless it was still unable to confer degrees, which led to the staff petitioning Madrid for the creation of an university in the region, the crown replied by converting the Seminary into a proper university, which allowed it to confer degrees under it’s own power.

The Central University mostly went at it’s own pace ignoring many international regulations of the era, as such it was at freedom to share the writings and studies of many banned authors, and came to offer some of the most libertarian education in the region, ultimately however the university wasn’t free of the multiple political changes in it’s country and it kept being reopened and reformed by the new ruling governments resulting in an institution which has changed as much as it’s home country.

Admission requirements

Admission to the Central University of Venezuela is rather straightforward, the main requirement is the university’s own diagnostic test, which is long, with an expected runtime of up to 12 hours, but is a single instance, those results coupled with a students high school diploma amount to the entire requirements.

Student Life

Student Life isn’t as centralized on campus as it’s common in most other western institutions, while it’s campus offers artistic displays like murals and statues, facilities don’t go much beyond libraries and cafeterias, as most Latin American universities don’t count with on-campus accommodation it’s premises are usually rather utilitarian.

Part-time work

The Central University of Venezuela doesn’t count with a direct program to help students pursue employment; as such any job hunting must be handled directly by the interested parties.

Fees

While as a public institution the Central University of Venezuela doesn’t officially count with a tuition fee, the inflation problems in Venezuela coupled with the general costs of studies means that the average student is expected to spend roughly 40,000bs on education per month.
