History
The history of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, or RCSI begins in the 15th century, back when surgery was licensed by the Guild of Mary Magdelene, which through a 5 year period properly imparted the knowledge required for the practice, however it wouldn’t be until 1446 that the guild would officially become a medical corporation, in fact it became the first in all of Ireland.
The next big change from the institution would come in the 18th century, when a College of Surgeons was proposed for the region, as the Trinity College didn’t offer degrees in the subject, the result was the foundation of the Royal College of Surgeons, in 1784, granting the institution and the former guild the required accreditation to be a proper surgeon college.
