History
Originally founded in 1845, the University College Cork, was founded as part of Queen Victoria’s endeavors to create new colleges in the region for the sake of advancing education all across Ireland, this act saw it’s main application in the establishment of 3 main colleges, one in Galway, one in Belfast, and another in Cork, all of which opened the same year.
With the passing of time the institution saw growth in both it’s staff and buildings, and as with most Irish institutions, the year 1908 brought with it the largest change, the passing of the Irish Universities Act saw Cork become a constituent college of the National University of Ireland, the form it continues to operate as, an agreement that has largely worked for it, as the institution has been named in multiple years the best Irish University.
