Founded through a series of donations related to the mining industry in 1874 the University of Adelaide surprisingly has a story more closely tied to the rights of women than anything else, as it was the second English-speaking university to accept women and treat them on equal terms with men, meaning that they were equally eligible for any honors or academic prizes.
