University of Freiburg

History

The University of Freiburg was founded in 1457, a project from the Habsburg Dynasty which saw direct inspiration from the University of Vienna. This makes it one of the five oldest universities in Germany, with a famed and long tradition in the area of humanities. The fact that the university has been associated with 21 Nobel Laureates has only helped to reaffirm it’s quality status across the globe.

Admission requirements

Selection on Freiburg University is based on both a student’s academic achievements and their motivation for studying in the institution. Some of the programs might require a selection interview, but outside of that application is standard fare, handled through their website and largely based on the high-school results of the applicant.

Student Life

Freiburg University focuses on creating a close-knit academic and international community, as such both the campus and community has a selection of student committees, and barious groups that allow a personal experience for it’s student body to get acquainted with each other.

 The city of Freiburg itself also has a wide selection of recreational offerings which range from a large range of sports like skiing or hiking. To multiple cultural offerings like the oens found in the city’s many museums. In short there’s always something to do in Freiburg.

Part-time work

Part-time work happens to be quite common for students in Germany, surveys show that at least two thirds of all students have a job, while Freiburg University doesn’t seem to have it’s own official platform for student job listings, the employment agency of the city of Stuttgart does count with openings for students, making it a centralized option to find possible job openings.

Fees

The fee for bachelors is approximately 3,000 EUR per semester; additionally international students will need to pay an extra 1,500 EUR fee on top of their semester expenses.

Freiburg University is currently ranked as the 213th best university in the world, making it the 11th best college level institution in Germany.
