History

Originally founded in the year 1829, Chalmers University of Technology owes it’s name to its main donor, William Chalmers, who decided to donate part of the fortune he had amassed as director the East India Company to establish an industrial school in Sweden, what he saw as an essential institution for the future of the nation.

During it’s early years Chalmers University of Technology operated as a private institution, until the year 1937, when it made the change to a state-owned institution, currently it operates as a university focused on the research and education of natural science, technology, architecture and maritime sciences.

Through it’s 13 departments the Chalmers University of Technology offers a somewhat modest selection of undergraduate programs, it’s specialization lies mostly on it’s master courses, as such when it comes to undergraduate courses not only is the selection not as avast as it could be, but also all programs are exclusively taught in Swedish.

Admission requirements

In general admission into Chalmers University of technology is rather straightforward, high-school results and qualifications are the main requirement at the institution and will be enough for most courses.

In special cases a course will require unique conditions to enroll, these exceptions are called y the university special powers, and can be found at each courses’ description page.

Student Life

Part-time work

While Chalmers University of Technology doesn’t directly offer a job board or a department aimed at helping students connect with their desired job, the institution still requires a lot of jobs to fill it0s staff on it’s multiple departments and stores on campus, meaning that finding a job on or near the institution is easier than it’d seem at first sight.

Fees

A general course at Chalmers University of technology has a cost of 70,000 SEK per semester, the sole exception being Architecture programs, which see a price increase to 95,000 SEK.

However EU students aren’t required to pay any tuition fees to the institution, and even international ones can avoid the cost or see it reduced under specific circumstances.

Ranking

The Chalmers University of Technology is currently ranked as the 273th best college level institution in the world, making it the overall eight best university in it’s home country of Sweden.

Summary

Chalmers University of Technology is an specialized institution, while it’s not to the degree of a medical school, it nonetheless has a clear focus and it’s selection represents that, the lack of English courses and this somewhat reduced selection might not make it the most appealing to international students, but for any EU students who are interested in the selection, they’ll find an amazing institution at no cost to them.
