Pompeu Fabra University

History

Pompeu Fabra University was founded in 1990 by the Catalan government, named after the famous linguist Pompeu Fabra, best known for it’s modern reform of the Catalan language and being one it’s most prolific writers during the recovery process the Catalan language underwent during the second half of the nineteenth century.

Much like it’s namesake the institution works as a cultural institute for the conservation and propagation of Catalan Language, with a focus on the areas of humanities, life sciences and communication sciences, the institution offers courses in Spanish, English and Catalan and through it’s continued efforts has grown to be a notorious presence in the country, being designated as a campus of international excellence by the ministry of education, and being accredited internationally as well.

Through it’s 8 unique faculties, Pompeu Fabra University offers well over 30 unique courses aimed at undergraduate students, some of which can even be pursued as double degree careers, granting students a larger level of flexibility and the option to finish their studies with a more competitive professional profile.

Admission requirements

Admissions at Pompeu Fabra University are a relatively simple endeavor, it’s application guidelines are the basic set imposed by the EU conventions, as such pretty much any student who has finished high-school and can prove it as well as prove their proficiency in the language of their desired course can apply and get enrolled without much fuss.

Student Life

Due to it’s origins and it’s focus on Catalan language as a whole it should come at no surprise that Student Life at Pompeu Fabra University is largely focused on Catalan and National culture, stage plays, museum exhibits and  cultural roadtrips are some of the most common and important social events hosted by the institution.

Part-time work

Pompeu Fabra University doesn’t count with a dedicated work portal for it’s students, while the general job listings at the university can in occasion offer positions for enrolled students these are too specific to be a reliable source of income, as such students at the institution will have to do the bulk of job hunting on their own time and with their own resources.

Fees

Tuition Fees at Pompeu Fabra University are currently set at roughly €2,000 per year coursed at the institution, provided the student is a EU citizen, for international students the amount raises considerably, and on average they’ll have to pay €7,000 per year of studies at the university.

The Pompeu Fabra University is currently ranked as the 339th best college level institution in the world, making it the overall eleventh best university in it’s home country of Spain.

Contrary to what it’s name and origins would imply Pompeu Fabra University has courses covering more than just linguistics, nonetheless it’s fame does mainly derive from them, and in that area the university is probably unmatched in all of Spain, students interested in enrolling into other courses will nonetheless see themselves facing a quality education and course selection.
