National University of Singapore

History

Due to the desire the government expressed into combining the resources of the University of Singapore and Nanyang University to be able to create a stronger institution, the National University of Singapore was established on 1980 from the former institutions, with it came a push to promote English as the main language of education in Singapore, which affected the policies of the new institution, ultimately this resulted in it becoming the first autonomous research university in the country.

Admission requirements

Admission to the National University of Singapore is largely based on high-school qualifications, some programs however, like Architecture do require an extra test and interview, so it’s important to check the fine details of the program you wish to pursue in the institution, additionally Singapore residents and certain international students will need to meet the Mother Tongue Language requirement .

Student Life

The National University of Singapore’s campus is a modern and also self-contained environment which offers students a wide variety of facilities and events to make sure all their needs are met on-campus, these range from multiple sport opportunities, to music and theatre activities as well as multiple orientation programs designed to help all students find their place in the NUS community.

Fees

Tuition Fees in the National University of Singapore are based on how many students join with the new semester, in short prices can fluctuate slightly with each new session and as such all prices shown are approximates even for the University:

  • Singapore Citizens: S$10,000
  • Singapore Permanent Residents: S$12,000
  • International Students:  S$20,000

The National University of Singapore is currently ranked as the 50th best college level institution in the world, thus making it the number one university in it’s home country of Singapore.
